I-1 Association

The creation of the I-1 Association and its purpose...

The I-1 Association began in 1989 with the first annual BBQ and reunion.  Its primary purpose is to support the current cadets of Company I-1 by providing some mentoring as requested, to assist with recruiting behind the scenes, and to provide a little financial support.  The goal was to assist, not interfere.  Over the past 20+ years, the I-1 Association has taken on a more active role by providing financial assistance to the current Cadets and help with recruiting and mentoring.  This assistance started slowly and has grown consistently every year.

At the annual BBQ reunion for the past 12 years, the I-1 Association has been able to give the outfit a:

  • A check for $1,000 to be used as they deem most beneficial for all in I-1.  Some years they have used the funds to upgrade their athletic equipment, other years updated some general equipment and supplies needed throughout the year, and other years the funds have been used to assist with tutoring.

  • The scholastic incentive program semester is allocated and distributed to those who qualify.  To qualify requires a 3.25 GPA and above and a minimum of 15 hours completed (fish, 12 hours) the previous semester.  Each Cadet who reaches this scholastic achievement is awarded a check for $300.  This program is highly promoted and is intended to put top emphasis on scholastics.

  • The Association has funded two Sul Ross Scholarships in memory of 1LT Doyle Hufstedler

The minimum, annual contribution to the outfit is $3,500 and that goal is exceeded most years due to the generous support of the "Old Ords" and parents.  In 2014, the I-1 Association presented I-1 with a commercial-grade tailgating tent along with I-1 logo banners to be used at FOW, football tailgates/BBQs, Parent’s Weekend, Final Review, etc.

In 2019 the Association celebrated the 50th anniversary of the outfit. Over 450 Old Ords, family and friends gathered to recognize the tradition that is Red Eye One.

Together, we raised over $20,000 for the fund.

In 2022, the Association announced a project to provide the Outfit with a new BBQ trailer complete with all tables, chairs, cooking equipment, smoker, griller etc. The trailer cost is estimated at over $6,000. However, the entire required sum was given at the Fall Reunion 2022.

The total contribution made by the I-1 Association over the past 10-15 years that have directly benefited I-1 and the I-1 cadets exceeds $100,000.

This has been made possible by the support of all I-1 cadets' family and friends as well as countless "Old Ords".

Without you and your support, the I-1 Association would not exist;

we thank you immensely for your support!
